Great Harbour Cay, Bahamas, described below and an hour's flight from Miami, is a tropical paradise with what Travel and Leisure calls one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in the world. Nestled in idyllic Sugar Beach is our vacation home, "BolaBeach"; its magnificent setting can be seen in the aerial view shown further down.

Completed in 2003, BolaBeach is a centrally air conditioned 4-bedroom 3-bath house (floor plan below) custom-built to our specifications -- with a high cathedral ceiling in the Great Room and quirks like a bidet in the master bath. It can sleep 12, due to the two sofabeds in the Great Room. The large ocean-facing terrace and 15-foot diameter Tiki hut on the beach have fully-reclining lounge chairs with cushions and are perfect for enjoying a good book or one of Ernie's tropical drinks -- and there are 3 blenders in the house!

But you wouldn't want to lay idle in Great Harbour Cay, with all the things you can do nearby. Caves considered by some to be among the most beautiful spots in The Bahamas are only a short walk away. Huge fish and lobsters are a short swim away in the beautiful reefs off the beach, as can be seen in the pictures below. And the enigmatic Blue Hole in the middle of a nearby island, explored by Jacques Cousteau, is a short boat ride away. For more information on the island, including how to get there, its well-protected marina, its airport and the FAA-Certified air carriers that serve it, click here.
