Safe Rooms

If intruders light a fire inside the house around the Safe Room, the Fire Suppression Option described here allows you, from inside the Safe Room, to drench the area with a deluge of water.

Let's cover the elements of the Fire Suppression Option using the house plan presented earlier. As mentioned elsewhere, essentially all of these elements will be added after all the house or remodel construction and inspections are completed, when we convert the Walk-in Closet into the Safe Room (this is done to maintain secrecy, since only our small team of highly trusted people will know of the Safe Room). The one exception is that a hose bib is specified during the design of the house or remodeling, and incorporated by the builder during the construction. This is done through the owners working with the architect, so as to mask the involvement of ConsultResearch.

The hose bib is specified outside the rear of the walk-in closet that will be converted to the Safe Room, as shown in light blue in the image at right. After construction, when the drywall of the walk-in closet is removed as part of the conversion, the water pipe going to the hose bib is exposed. It is then cut and a T inserted in the line, taking water to a water valve shown in dark blue in the image. Pipes then run from this valve to two sidewall fire sprinkler nozzle heads mounted high on the walls and shown in light green in the image, one to drench the adjacent closet and one to drench the master bedroom; the sidewall-mounted nozzle head is shown at the bottom of the image and looks just like the ones used in fire sprinkler systems. Except for the water valve, none of the new piping can be seen once the drywall is reinstalled atop the Kevlar ballistic panels. And the water valve will not be visible once clothes are hanged in the closet.

Under normal intrusion scenarios, a fire is not expected. It would put the intruders at similar risk. This Option is intended to deal with the possibility, although slight, that the intruders, unable to achieve their goals, light a fire next to the Safe Room before leaving. From inside the Safe Room, at the slightest indication of heat or smoke, you can open the water valve and extinguish the fire.
